Nurses know medical debt doesn’t affect our patients equally — medical debt has a far greater impact on low-income and Black and Latino Californians.

Medical debt is one of the most common types of debt on consumer credit records, but what’s reported is often inaccurate, including charges already paid, bills that aren’t correct or invoices that are completely wrong.

Sharing our stories about how medical debt impacts patients helps us to advocate for a fair credit system that does not punish patients for seeking care.
