Tell Congress: End the Industry-Created Staffing Crisis Now!
For years, hospital industry executives have pushed for more profits at every turn, a trend which has only accelerated throughout the Covid pandemic. This means fewer nurses and other health care workers in our hospitals, dangerous patient care conditions, and more hospital closures, leading to a patient safety crisis. Every day, it is estimated that 700 people in the U.S. die from preventable errors in their medical treatment or complications from those errors.
That’s why National Nurses United members and supporters are calling for federal legislation to end the industry-created staffing crisis including:
- The Nurse Staffing Standards for Hospital Patient Safety and Quality Care Act (S. 1113/H.R. 2530)
- The Workplace Violence Prevention for Health Care and Social Service Workers Act
Tell Congress: Protect health care workers and patients by holding the hospital industry accountable for its greed and negligence. End the industry-created staffing crisis now!
Petition to End the Industry-Created Staffing Crisis
There is a staffing crisis in our hospitals. The hospital industry has caused this crisis with intentional understaffing and its refusal to protect nurses and other health care workers from Covid-19, other infectious diseases, and rampant violence in the workplace, driving nurses away from the bedside.
Frontline nurses, other health care workers, patients, and community members are coming together to demand an end to the industry-created staffing crisis. We urgently need critical patient care protections like federal safe staffing legislation and federal workplace violence prevention legislation.
