The Workplace Violence Prevention for Health Care and Social Service Workers Act, or S. 4182, was officially reintroduced in the U.S. Senate in May. The bill would mandate that OSHA create a federal standard requiring health care and social service employers to develop and implement a comprehensive workplace violence prevention plan.
Health care and social service workers face extremely high rates of workplace violence, and these dangerous conditions are worsening. Since March of last year, nurses have reported a 119 percent rise in workplace violence.
S. 4182 is a critical opportunity to help protect health care workers and patients across the country with an enforceable, national workplace violence prevention OSHA standard. We are writing letters to the U.S. Senate urging them to pass S. 4182 in the Senate and send it to President Biden for his signature.
